Month 1: Overview

We’ve been hiking for one month! So I thought it was only fitting to do a post at the end of each month of our hike and dish out some facts and superlatives from the past 30 or so days. Without further ado, here are the stats and faves from March 15th to April 15th.

Total miles: 375.8
Average mileage per day: 12.1
Percent of trail completed: 17%
Number of zero days: 3 (Hiawassee, Franklin, and Hot Springs)
Number of falls: Lindsey had 17 (majority from ice) and Miles had 6
Favorite Mountain: Big Bald
Favorite Camping Spot: Cheoah Bald
Favorite State: North Carolina
Favorite Trail town: Hot Springs
Our Favorite Trail Location Names: Big Butt Mountain, Gooch Gap, Chunky Gal Trail, and Lick Knob
Best hiking day: Day 23 (first warm day in awhile, hanging out on Max Patch, trail magic, and we were out of the Smokies)
Worst Hiking Day: Day 4 (out of Neels Gap, it was cold, raining, and we were sore. Thunder and lightning, setting up camp in the cold rain, and blisters)
Most difficult day: Day 19 (hiking down Clingmans Dome on the ice and falling a lot)
Easiest Hike: Day 1 from Springer to Hawk Mountain Shelter.

And there you have it. A month in review.
